FAQs

How does this all WORK?

  1. New applicants (let’s call them mentees) fill out this google form to indicate what they are interested in applying for.

  2. Individuals who have successfully applied for funding before (let’s call them mentors) fill out this google form to indicate what they can provide advice about.

  3. We search for the best matches. We will try to match people by department and research focus.

  4. Before making a connection, we’ll reach out to potential mentors to double check that they are still able to take on a new mentee.

  5. Finally, we’ll send an email to connect mentor and mentee.

What Kind of Funding do you provide help with?

Our goal is to provide help with substantial funding sources that help accelerate your educational and research career, from big, multiyear fellowships (e.g. Hertz, NSF GRFP), to single-year grants, to short-term research grants.

Realistically, the really big fellowships will have the most competition, the most number of new applicants, and the most number of available mentors. However, we will try to connect every mentee with a mentor who can provide some help.

Want more info about the types of funding that mentors might be able to provide advice about? Check out this google sheet!

Who is this for?

Our primary goal is to help students in the College of Engineering, including undergraduates, masters, and PhDs.

When do this Effort Start?

We started connecting mentors and mentees in the fall 2023 fellowship cycle.

I am applying for opportunity [x], but I don’t See it listed Anywhere.

We’d still suggest that you fill out the google form for potential mentees.

It’s possible that we don’t have any mentors that can help with your application. Either way, we’ll let you know!
